Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR)

All 51ÁÔÆæ undergraduate students and taught postgraduate students receive the Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR) when they graduate. All enrolled undergraduates are issued with a draft (interim) copy of their HEAR during their first term for all enrolled students; this interim copy is updated regularly.

From 29 June 2026 - Access to HEAR is changing

What is the HEAR?

When you graduate, as well as being issued with a degree certificate, you will be given access to your HEAR. This electronic document is our official academic transcript of your module results, alongside any recognised extra achievements such as internships, volunteering or student representative roles.

What is it for?

The HEAR is an excellent way to build a record of your employability as it captures not only your individual modules, but any recognised extra activities you've done at 51ÁÔÆæ. The HEAR allows you to see what you’ve achieved so far and what extra activities you could do before you graduate. This record can be very helpful when talking to employers about your skills and experiences.

HEAR section 6.1

This is the section that includes information about the recognised extra-curricular activities you take part in as a student, such as volunteering, internships, Unitemps or student representative roles. The list is not fixed and new activities can be added. However, they need to be added by the activity leader before the start of the academic year in which the activity takes place.

Activities approval criteria.

Not all extra-curricular activities are automatically eligible for HEAR 6.1. A HEAR panel considers new activity requests submitted by activity leaders and approves them only if they meet the following criteria in brief and further details click here:

  1. The activity is verifiable by the university
  2. The activity is open to all students or all students within a specific academic cohort.  The exception to this of certain representative roles which may be restricted to ensure democratic representation of the students.
  3. The activity is not directly part of the academic credit-bearing curriculum
  4. The activity is a DMU/DSU organised opportunity which recognises the students’ employability skill development
  5. The activity should normally be completed and verified before students have completed their academic programme

The deadline for requesting new activities to be added to the HEAR is 28th February

What activities are recognised?

A wide range of extra-curricular activities are recognised, and new activities can be added by activity leaders, as long as they meet the HEAR criteria.

If you have volunteered with the DSU or 51ÁÔÆælocal, taken part in 51ÁÔÆæglobal, undertaken a Frontrunner role, or found work through Unitemps, as long as you've worked the required number of hours, it will appear.

The HEAR will also include any official positions you've held in clubs and societies, and prizes or awards you've received while at 51ÁÔÆæ.

We have created a full current list of recognised activities. If you feel an activity should be added to the HEAR, then please contact us at the email address below and we will look into this. Some activities may not be eligible, for example if they don’t include enough hours.

Summer 2026 graduates – the way you access your Higher Education Achievement Report is changing

What’s changing?

From 29 June 2026, you will no longer be able to use University Single Sign-On (SSO) to access the external portal where your HEAR report is stored.

In addition, your university email account will be closed 60 days after your graduation date.

What you must do

To make sure you can continue to access your HEAR report after graduation, you must add a personal (non-university) email address to your HEAR portal account.

Deadline: 7am, 29 June 2026

  • While SSO is still available, log in once and
  • Add a personal email address to your account
  • Set a password for that email
  • Make it your primary email

This takes only a few minutes and ensures uninterrupted access after graduation.

What happens if you don’t take action?

  • You will lose access to your HEAR report once your university email is closed
  • Requesting access to your HEAR later will take longer and may incur a charge

How can I add my personal email?

  1. Go to the and select Sign in with single sign-on/ institution login.
  2. Under account settings (located in the drop-down menu under your name in the top corner), select ‘link another email’ and enter your personal email address before creating a password when prompted.
  3. Once you have verified your personal email (remember to check your spam folder), return to your account settings and set your personal email account as your primary email.
