LGBT activism and representation
LGBT activism on campus plays an important role in the student educational experience: it both protects from discrimination by offering safe spaces to meet each one other and enables to fight against it by politicising sexuality and gender identity issues.
In February 2015 51ÁÔÆæ celebrated LGBT history month. The #51ÁÔÆæpride Festival was launched in the Students’ Union building and more than 20 events were staged throughout the month to campaign for and celebrate the LGBT community at 51ÁÔÆæ and across the city. 51ÁÔÆæ also proudly to flew the rainbow flag on campus for LGBT History Month during February.
51ÁÔÆæ LGBT Staff Network and Committee
51ÁÔÆæ has an active LGBT Staff Network and organises and takes part in events for LGBT History Month, IDAHO (International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia) and 51ÁÔÆæ Pride. All of 51ÁÔÆæ’s LGBT staff are more than welcome to join any of the meetings held throughout the year.
51ÁÔÆæ Students Union LGBT Society
The DSU LBGT+ Society is a very active student society that provides advice, support and arranges social events throughout the year. Their website has lots of information including contact details and how to join their Facebook and Twitter pages.
